“Jerry Brown has finished his cycle of bill signings and vetoes for the year. How would you characterize him - conservative, moderate, liberal, or something else entirely?”
Jerry Brown has been, is, and always will be “something else entirely.”
I would characterize him as a Jesuit. He examines each issue independently and angers both parties. The lens he uses is fiscal effect. The only one that falls outside this in my mind is the fall-only initiative bill. There are hints of environmental orientation, not partisan, and there are hints of humanitarianism, not partisan. Certainly fun to watch.
I would characterize him as conservative, moderate, liberal, and other things entirely.
A pretty damn good governor.
Jerry Brown defies labels. He’s practical, Socratic, intellectually curious. These characteristics make it hard to box him in.
He’s other-worldly … Superman, combined with Irish-Catholic Democrat politician and Zen Buddhist. Trouble is, the legislative Republicans, chased by Grover Nordquist, accidentally tripped over some Kryptonite, and are using it to combat Jerry.
Will the real Jerry Brown please stand up? So what if he changes his mind and is all over the map? If we had half as many legislators with his kind of smarts and spunk, this would be a great state. It’s all totally manageable.
Gov. Brown defies any kind of definition and he likes it that way. However, the honeymoon period he enjoyed six months ago when he was flying Southwest and getting rid of cell phone contracts is quickly ending.
Moderate with an 80 percent chance of union influence.
A tap dancer, and a good one. The best politicians have good timing like Groucho Marx.
