Now that the China National Offshore Oil Corportation has failed in their
bid to acquire Unocal Corp., the government-owned company is packing up its
California lobbying operation. CNOOC had retained the services of TK Rose &
Kindel to help with public relations and any potential government lobbying
associated with the merger.

After objections were raised by Sen. Dianne Feinstein and others about
selling one of the world’s largest oil companies to the Chinese government,
Unocal opted to sell to Chevron, despite the fact that Chevron’s bid was
more than $2 billion below what CNOOC was offering for the company.

Meanwhile, lobbyist Chris Micheli officially closed the books on the
lobbying firm he once partnered with the late Kathy Snodgrass. Micheli is
now a lobbyist for California Strategies.
